School fundraisers are important to schools and students alike.  While they help to raise much needed funds for schools, they also teach students valuable skills they will use over their lifetime.  Fundraisers help kids develop leadership skills, build confidence, learn to speak to adults, set goals, handle money, plan events and work as a team. Fundraisers also facilitate students, parents, teachers and administrators working together for the common good/goal of a school.  These combined efforts can also lead to school pride and improved relationships between students and staff.

School Fundraiser Benefits

Fundraisers are usually sponsored by a school’s PTO/PTA, clubs and sports teams.  School funding correlates to school achievement levels.  Fundraisers often raise money for extras that really are necessary, such as technology, classroom supplies and building updates that typically aren’t covered by a school’s budget.  Many school fundraisers allow students to participate in clubs and academic programs such as choir, band, sports and STEM classes that they otherwise couldn’t afford.

What makes a successful fundraiser?  That’s a GREAT question.  Fundraisers often used to offer unhealthy snacks like candy bars, cookie dough and candy.  Taking care of one’s health is an important lesson to teach students, and these sugary items do not qualify.  In fact, the trend in school lunches and school fundraisers is towards offering healthier options.

Healthy School Fundraiser Idea

Fitness Board Game

Fitness Board Game

At Fit-N-Fun Games, we think our fitness board game would make the ideal fundraiser.  It promotes fitness in a fun way (gamified fitness), encourages teamwork, gets kids off their phones, builds healthy competition, and gives families a fun activity to do together.  Our workout can be done solo, with friends and even as a team.  It’s ideal for physical education classes, alternative forms of training for sport’s teams, and for after school clubs.

Our Fit N Fun boardgame would be easy for students to sell through promoting the health benefits.  What parent wouldn’t want a healthy fitness game that gets kids off their screens?!  It could even be fun to have students demonstrate how to “play” the game to kick-off the fundraiser. A few of the many selling points is that there is no equipment needed (batteries), and we demonstrate how to perform each exercise in the game correctly with modifications.  Light hand weights can be used, and we show alternatives for no weights or using common household items such as soup cans.

While traditionally our fitness game has been sold through our website, social media and retail stores, we believe a school fundraiser would be the perfect match for promoting our mission of making fitness fun and affordable for all!
